WOYWW 327

Not much going on here at the mo- Half way though a journal page about the school where I work ( the stags head is our logo) . Also hubby picked up the latest edition of craft stamper , so I have been having a read though.
This little soldering iron arrived today - I have not bought it to solder anything with but ...to cut my own stencils with . I saw a fab tutorial on you tube for making your own stencils out of plastic file dividers -The tool cost the price of two small stencils, so if it works , i shall be able to save a little ( who am i kidding !! ha ha). Of course i can't find the blinking video now can I ? But this is very similar . You can just print onto acetate as well. I will let you know how I get on .
Well ...I found some acetate and couldn't wait. It cuts very smoothly , there is a knack and I was a bit shaky though I could have chosen an easier one to start with!!

I quite like the wobbly bits :).

If you would like to join in with the fun , hopping round other crafters desks , you need to pop over to see Julia who has all the details.

  4. You're like me..jump straight in with both feet first!! Why take the easy road and choose an easy pattern to start with? Doing something tricky like you did is a challenge...you did really well!

  5. I have seen videos on cutting stencils using a soldering iron. I thought about trying it...glad i stopped by to see your results. I wouldn't have noticed the shakiness had you not said something. I am rather impressed with your result, especially since it's your fist stab at it!

  7. Goodness what a really difficult shape to start with and you've made a great job of it. It doesn't look even a bit wobbly to me. Very impressive Sue. I look forward to seeing your journal page. The stag will certainly be an impressive image. Barbxx

  10. Hi Sue! I don't believe I visited before - or perhaps I just don't remember? I added you on G+. I love the idea of using a soldering iron to cut your own stencils. I've been looking at some stencil cutters (which work on the same principle) but they didn't seem very good quality. Yours looks much better! And DIY tools are always cheaper than craft tools! Will definitely look into that! Have a crafty week! zsuzsa @ InkyDinkyDoodle #28

  14. Your stencil cutting is fab - so neat and I can't see the wobbly bits at all! I have a stencil cutting tool but didn't get on with it - perhaps I need to persevere a bit more! I really like the design you chose too.
Hope you have a great week,

  15. oh my gosh how cool is this? I love that you found a way to cut stencils cleanly. ( I am guessing the shaky part goes away after time) but, I have made some ghetto stuff with dies and it is all kinda... ( good thing I am smooshing paint through it thoughts) so, I love this :) tfs! ~Stacy #44

  17. Great stuff, Soojay - love the stencil you have cut. Once I get my Cougar cutting machine up again I shall be cutting some more. Those polywallets you can get are excellent for stencils too. I've made acetate ones but they can split a bit, I find. I haven't ever cut any by hand.

Thanks for a lovely comment - yes, I agree, it's so hard for the hubbies to watch us suffer, and Doug has more than his fair share of that at the moment. Poor Shaz, my heart really goes out to her. Glad you like my colouring - it was a fun interlude this p.m. when I felt a bit more like doing something light! Not feeling so bad at this stage of the cycle this time, because they reduced the dose, so hopefully I'll be up and running a bit sooner this time. I have so many plans of things I am wanting to do!

  19. I like the idea of making stencils and will have to look at this. I already have the soldering iron and have never used it but don't tell him in-doors or he might try to pinch it Lol! Have a good woyww and happy crafting, Angela x 22

  20. Way to go, Sue! I've seen the same video and as soon as it finished, I put a soldering iron on my Amazon wish list. Now I've seen what a great result you've had on your first try, I really must put it in my basket and buy the darned thing lol. xx
